This Bear’s Head or Lion’s Mane mushroom (Hericium sp.) was observed and photographed in October 2014 by Brent Matsuda in Whistler, BC. From the photographer:

“While not a vertebrate, it was most definitely consumed by vertebrates! A very tasty addition to stir frys which also retains its texture despite its delicate appearance. Medicinally it has shown regenerative properties and is said to improve memory!”
